Tabora Boys’ Secondary School was established to educate the sons of African chiefs. The students who studied with Nyerere, as well as those who followed, played critical roles in the country’s political, economic, and social development. It should be noted that the institution was attended by ministers in the first independent government during or shortly after WWII (WWII).
The first self-government cabinet consisted of eight ministers in 1961; five of them were Taborans (popularly known as Waboyzia). It is evident that Waboyzia ruled Tanzania’s highest echelons at the time. Following independence, the university began to recruit the country’s finest students.
