Soon after gaining independence on December 9, 1961, the newly independent state discovered a shortage of skilled employees for commercial and industrial activity.

There were extremely few nationals with commercial education and experience at the time. The college was formally renamed the “College of Business Education” (CBE). The aforementioned Parliamentary Act grants the College legal standing as an autonomous institution with its own governing body. The provisions of this Act control and govern the administration of the college.

General minimum entry qualifications for undergraduate programs

  1. Completed A-Level studies before 2014: Two principal passes with a total of 4.0 points (where A = 5; B = 4; C = 3; D = 2; E = 1).
  2. Completed A-Level studies in 2014 and 2015: Two principal passes with a total of 4.0 points (where A = 5; B+ = 4; B = 3; C = 2; D = 1).
  3. Completed A-Level studies from 2016: Two principal passes with a total of 4.0 points (where A = 5; B = 4; C = 3; D = 2; E = 1).
  4. Recognition of Prior Learning Qualifications: B+ Grade: where A =75-100, B+ = 65-74, B = 50-64, C =40-49, D = 35-39, and F = 0-38. Or a GPA of 3.0 accumulated from six core subjects and at least a C grade from three

Foundation Program of the Open University of Tanzania (OUT)

  • subjects in a respective cluster (Arts, Science, and Business Studies) PLUS An Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination with at least 1.5 from two subjects
  • A GPA of 3.0 accumulated from six core subjects and at least a C grade from three subjects in a respective cluster (Arts, Science, and Business Studies)
  • An ordinary diploma from the recognized institution with a GPA of at least 2.0 Professional Technician Level II Certificate

Equivalent applicants

At least four O’-Level passes (Ds and above) or NVA Level III with less than four O’-Level passes or equivalent foreign qualifications as established by either NECTA or VETA,

  • At least a GPA of 3.0 for Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6), OR
  • Average of B for Full Technician Certificate (FTC) (where A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, and D = 2 points), OR
  • Average of ‘B+’ Grade for Diploma in Teacher Education, OR
  • Average of a ‘B+’ grade for health-related awards such as clinical medicine and others, OR
  • A distinction for unclassified diplomas and certificates, OR
  • Upper Second Class for classified non-NTA diplomas

Sifa Za Kujiunga Na Chuo Cha Biashara Kozi Za Diploma

The applicant will be deemed eligible for consideration to join a two-year ordinary diploma program if he has at least four passes, excluding religious subjects, in the Certificate of Secondary Education.

  1. Ordinary Diploma in Business Administration (DBA)
    • Any NTA level 4 certificates from a NACTE-recognized institution,
    • Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education with one principal pass and one subsidiary pass of the combination subjects
  2. Ordinary Diploma in Accountancy (DA)
    • Any NTA level 4 certificates in banking and credit management or their equivalent from a NACTE-recognized institution,
    • Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education with one principal pass and one subsidiary pass of the combination subjects
  3. Ordinary Diploma in Banking and Finance Management
    • Any NTA level 4 certificate in accounting or its equivalent from a NACTE-recognized institution,
    • Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education with one principal pass and one subsidiary pass of the combination subjects
  4. Ordinary Diploma in Marketing (DMK)
    • Any NTA level 4 certificates from a NACTE-recognized institution,
    • Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education with one principal pass and one subsidiary pass of the combination subjects

Chuo Cha Biashara CBE Admission Regulation

  • Selected candidates are required to register after they have paid at least the first installment of the tuition fee. The time frame for fee payment and registration will be one month (30 days) from the date the college opens; this also applies to students with repeat modules or carry forward. Students who have not completed the registration and fee payment processes within the specified time frame will automatically lose their’ status and not be able to undertake any course during the particular semester.
  • No student shall be allowed to change an academic program later than the second week from the commencement of the program.
  • No change of names by the student shall be allowed during the course of study. Students shall be allowed to use names appearing on the certificates that qualified them for admission.
  • Certificates obtained outside Tanzania should get translations from the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA).
