The Barrick The North Mara gold mine is located in the Tarime district of the Mara region in northwest Tanzania. It is approximately 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border. In 2002, North Mara began commercial production. Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit) operate the mine’s open pit and underground operations, respectively. The processing plant can handle an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore daily.
